aturday, February 4th, Westlake High School’s Spirit leaders – made up of 70 Cheerleaders, Push-Up Squad and Mascots — will be trading in their pom poms for aprons when they team up with Westlake Hills-based Mobile Loaves & Fishes at Wooldridge Square Park in downtown Austin to serve over 400 homeless people.
“For the third year in a row, Westlake’s Spirit Leaders will bring cheer to the less fortunate and forge a stronger presence within the community,” states Co-President Danielle Wills. “These students spend all year raising the spirit level at Westlake High School; they look forward to doing the same with Mobile Loaves and Fishes.”
Team members will prepare, grill and serve hamburgers to Austin’s homeless community from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additionally, the Cheerleaders, Push-Up Squad and Mascots will play pick-up Frisbee and horse shoes, and then help with arts and crafts through the partnering organization, Mobile Arts & Wishes.
“My favorite part of this day is the difference you can make with a smile and a little kindness,” shares Varsity Cheerleader Matty Heinrich. “You won’t find a more appreciative and friendly group of individuals. I look forward to this service project every year.”
The Westlake Cheerleading Parent Association, led by Co-Presidents Danielle Wills and Kathy Brown, and President-Elect, Clarissa Streetman, facilitates opportunities for these students to fundraise and give back to the community throughout the year.
Mobile Loaves & Fishes is a social outreach ministry for the homeless, with a mission to provide uncompromising love and hospitality to our brothers and sisters in need.
