Mobile Loaves & Fishes, ReWork Project, and Austin-area businesses have come together to launch an exciting new initiative that empowers the working homeless to earn an income. As Nate Schlueter, program director of ReWork says, “This is our SXSW ‘release’! We’re releasing opportunity into the community!”
Indeed, the individuals you see pedaling the MLF Street Treats bike will receive 100% of the revenues they earn selling delicious Blue Bell frozen treats out on the sidewalks of Austin, Texas. The offerings will include:
- Chooclate Fudge Bar
- Strawberry Fruit Bar
- Rainbow Freeze
- Ice Cream Sandwich
- and Alan’s Favorite- the Vanilla Country Cone (topped with chocolate and nuts)!
Street Treats will launch this FRIDAY, March 9 at 7:00pm on the corner of 6th and Congress. All the treats will be sold for $1.00. During SXSWi, the first 100 people to buy a Street Treat will also receive a free promotional t-shirt!
After Friday’s release the cart will run from 11am until midnight, unless they sell out earlier (which they will). Street Treat vendors will be tweeting their location via the Twitter handle @StreetTreatsATX so you can find them whenever you get the craving for something sweet. And thanks to local start-up YoMobi.com, we have a mobile website that you can check on the go! http://streettreats.yomobi.com.
Street Treats is also an official vendor for Music For the City’s free SX event on Sunday the 11th @ 6pm. Visit their website @ www.musicforthecity.org for more information.
Street Treats is supported by these local, Austin-area businesses and organizations:
Quantum Leap Realty – Mike Porter
Sandy Goodwin and Company – Betty Wangler, Realtor
