CF! is a unique outreach program effectively confronting homelessness by lifting chronically homeless men and women up off the streets providing supportive, affordable and sustainable housing based in a loving and hospitable environment with amenities to improve quality of life.
HistoryIn January 2005 Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) adopted a new strategic initiative called Habitat on Wheels (HOW). HOW’s purpose was to purchase gently used recreational vehicles and lift chronically homeless people up off of the streets and empower them to heal from the ravages of living on the streets and rediscover purpose in their lives. Today our program is no longer called Habitat on Wheels. It has been renamed Community First! to reflect more accurately the inherent sense of community found in RV Communities and built on the powerful “Housing First” trend that is currently moving throughout the United States.

Program
MLF owns over 40 RV homes placed in several RV communities with a large concentration in two RV communities in Austin. Currently there are over 45 formerly chronically homeless people successfully housed in RV homes, and over 86% of those lifted off the streets remain successfully housed.
Future
MLF is currently seeking input from the Austin community on a location for this Community First! Village. If the City were to provide MLF with a tract of land that has the necessary entitlements, MLF would raise the needed capital to build the infrastructure for the RV home community that would ultimately house 200 formerly chronically homeless people.
