Sometimes life hits us hard. I’ve endured some rough spots in my life, and I’m thinking you probably have too. For you and me, the relationships we have with family help sustain us through these difficult times. Sadly, this is not true for our friends living on the streets. They are alone, vulnerable and have no one to help them weather the storms of life.

Disconnected from his family, my friend Clifton had no one to turn to when he was laid off from his job. It wasn’t long until he went through his savings and lost his home. He searched throughout the city for work, but soon found himself trying to survive on the streets of Austin. He was alone and hungry when a homeless friend told Clifton about Mobile Loaves & Fishes.

The primary cause of homelessness is a catastrophic loss of family.

Our friends on the street hunger for so much more than food. They crave community and relationships. They seek opportunity and dignified ways to earn a living.

My friend Clifton has a passion for drawing and painting. He is an artist in the Mobile Loaves & Fishes’ Community Works program. This core program of MLF provides micro-enterprise opportunities for our homeless friends to earn a living using their God-given talents in art, blacksmithing and woodcrafting.

With your support, he creates art to sell in local shows, packages socks with a local sock company, volunteers in a woodshop, and he hopes to be moving into the Community First! Village soon.

At Mobile Loaves & Fishes we offer so much more than a meal. We offer community, opportunity, dignity, and hope. We offer a way home.
