Community Happens Here

At Mobile Loaves & Fishes, we believe that once people are properly housed and their basic needs are being met, they can begin healing from the ravages of living on the streets. But for our homeless friends to truly settle, heal and transform their lives, they need much more than four walls and a roof to no longer be homeless. They need relationships. They need dignity and a renewed sense of hope. They need community. They need you.

Community stands strong when storms hit. Neighbors help each other walk safely on the snowy and icy sidewalks during the winter storm.

Community shows up when it’s time to celebrate. The Pure Goodness Music Collective, a band of Community First! Village neighbors, headlines the Summer of Love Festival.

Community gathers quietly when being together is all that matters. Village friends come together for a memorial service celebrating the lives of neighbors who have passed.

“If we want to restore together, we have to live together.”
– Alan Graham, Founder & CEO

Do you love where you live? Do you know your neighbors? Is your neighborhood a community of friends who know and care about each other?

For 34 years, I loved where I lived. I was settled in the same house in a neighborhood with people who were mostly just like me. I raised my family there, made wonderful memories and planned to live out my life there. It was safe and comfortable. In fact, it was so comfortable that I never really ventured out and engaged with my neighbors. My community was defined by zip code and not by authentic connections. Then, five years ago, I moved into my home in Community First! Village. What I’ve learned by living in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Austin, Texas is nothing short of profound.

“We love the daily routines of the Village – walks to see friends, dinners on our porch, conversations over coffee. Our daughters are growing up in an environment where connection and care are around every corner.”
– Dustin, Community First! Village Missional Neighbor

Housing alone will never solve homelessness, but community will!

“My friend Blair is the goodwill ambassador of the Village. He is friends with everyone.”

– Brian, Community First! Village Neighbor

My neighbors in Community First! Village have helped me to experience community in ways that I never have before. They have shown me what community looks like on an ordinary day, and especially on those extraordinary days.

I am so thankful to be a neighbor in this community, and I’m grateful that you choose to be a part of this community too. You are the goodness that our neighbors so desperately need to restore and transform their lives. Your compassionate support directly impacts our friends living in Community First! Village and those still suffering on the streets of Austin.
