The impact of this global crisis is affecting us all in many ways. Unfortunately, some of those who serve the homeless have been forced to temporarily stop providing services. Nearly 22 years ago, the founders of Mobile Loaves & Fishes acted on their call to feed the homeless and we are still answering that call today.

We want you to know that our Mobile Loaves & Fishes food trucks are going out onto the streets of Austin and serving our homeless friends. Currently, seven trucks operated by MLF volunteers are serving at least one meal a day at various locations throughout the city.

As you can imagine, the way in which we are serving our homeless friends has changed. All food is prepared and then packaged. Volunteers wearing protective gear set the bagged food on a table. While maintaining safe distancing practices, our homeless friends are invited to come and take the food they need from the table. While this is not our usual human to human, heart to heart way of serving and engaging with our homeless neighbors, it is the safest way to provide them with the food they need now.

In recent weeks, we have collaborated with several partners to help us provide food to our homeless friends.

  • The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF): Six days each week, our Community First! Village culinary team prepares 100 packaged meals and delivers them to TOOF, who then distributes these meals to our homeless friends who come to the organization’s mobile hygiene clinic.
  • Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center:  MLF is partnering with Chick-Fil-A to provide 200 chicken sandwiches and with McDonald’s to provide 300 hamburgers each week for Sunrise to distribute to the homeless men and women they serve.
  • Rudy’s Country Store and BBQ: Provides food three times each week to Community First! Village, which helps to feed our neighbors living in the Village and provides meals that the Community First! Village food truck delivers to our friends still living on the streets.
  • Easy Tiger:  Provides bread each week that our culinary team uses to prepare meals for our Village neighbors and for our homeless friends.
  • Angel House:  The St. John Neumann Truck team volunteers are providing packaged meals that Angel House distributes to those they faithfully serve.

Your help is needed now to provide the food our homeless neighbors need to survive.  Please donate now at give.mlf.org/coronavirus.

You are the Goodness that is Mobile Loaves & Fishes!
