What does it mean to love your neighbor? The answer is often very simple.
Nearly three decades ago, Mobile Loaves & Fishes’ founders boldly answered God’s call to “love your neighbor” by delivering meals to homeless men and women who were living on the streets of Austin. They learned then that a simple act of hospitality leads to conversation. Conversation builds trust. Trust builds relationships. Relationships build community.
At Community First! Village, everything we do is about relationships and connecting with others — human to human, heart to heart. For us, “love your neighbor” is an invitation to be intentional about knowing one another and creating community. We know that housing alone will never solve homelessness, but community will. When our community comes together to support and care for our most vulnerable neighbors, that is what “loving your neighbor” looks like to us!
Community First! Village is an innovative master-planned neighborhood designed specifically for men and women who are transitioning out of chronic homelessness. The Village provides our neighbors with a permanent home in a supportive community. While hundreds of our formerly homeless neighbors have come home to Community First! Village, far too many men and men still live on the streets. Mobile Loaves & Fishes is continuing our expansion of the Village to help bring more neighbors home, and we invite you to join this movement. It’s time to engage. It’s time to love your neighbor!
