We provide food and clothing, cultivate community and promote dignity to our homeless brothers and sisters in need.
Danny’s Journey Home – Part 1
“I WAS HOMELESS FOR 30 YEARS” –Danny
I was hanging out at a shelter that was in an old warehouse downtown. It was freezing outside, and there was no heat in there. Suddenly my friend shouts, ‘Here comes the MLF food truck!’ I didn’t know what he was talking about, but I sure was glad to see that truck. Pretty soon a group of people were greeting us with warm handshakes, big smiles and giving us coffee, hot chocolate and sandwiches.
At Mobile Loaves & Fishes we offer so much more than a meal.
We offer dignity, empowerment, relationship and community.
We offer a way home.
For Danny, a sandwich and hot cup of coffee on a cold night was the first step in his journey home. Through the generous support of friends like you, Danny began to build relationships and transform his life. Now Danny leads a MLF truck team of homeless volunteers who serve their brothers and sisters suffering on the streets. He and his team know all too well what it means to be alone, hungry and vulnerable, as well as what their friends need most – relief, hope and to be treated with dignity.
“I CARRY TWO MEANINGS FOR THE LETTERS MLF. OF COURSE YOU KNOW IT AS MOBILE LOAVES & FISHES, BUT FOR ME MLF MEANS MY LOVING FAMILY!” – Danny
Today is a joyful day! I am home. As I came up to show my friends my new place, I took my key and unlocked the door. Not because I needed to lock it – because I feel safe here – but just because I could. It has been a really long time since I could lock my door when I leave or when I go to sleep at night.
Danny has found home and people who care for him, but there are many others still suffering on the streets. They are praying not only for food, but also to be surrounded by people who care and to have a place to call home.
